Week 8 of the Young3 camp went down in Atlanta, Georgia! With local schools also beginning their semesters this week, these kids had some full days on their hands!

The Young3 made trips to Stone Mountain High School (senior class), Freedom Middle School (8th grade class) and Humphries Elementary School (5th grade class). Johnnie Williams, Jerome Williams, James “Hollywood” Robinson, Erin Thorn, and Desmon Farmer spoke to students with their own life experience and a lot of advice.

The Young3 crew shared stories along the lines of how they got to the pros, what it felt like when they were drafted, and how their lives are in retirement. As for Johnnie Williams, he shared a story from his youth about when his dad bought him a basketball and later explained how it taught him a lesson. The students were very focused on the speakers and enjoyed every second of it.

The Young3 went on to the Salvation Army Bellwood Boys and Girls Club to host a camp and 3 on 3 tournament. This took place after school and was a nice treat for these kids hard work and dedication to their schoolwork. About 100 kids attended with cheerful dispositions and eagerness to learn.

Big3 players, Jamario Moon and Mario West attended today’s camp and took pictures with a whole bunch of kids. Several basketball legends attended, as part of Shooting For Peace: Dale Ellis, Reggie Johnson, Sedric Toney, and Harold Keeling. All of whom are a part of the Atlanta Chapter NBRPA which stands for the National Basketball Retired Players Association.

The atmosphere was high energy with excited parents and friends cheering for everyone in today’s 3 on 3 tournament. Arguably the most memorable moment of Young3 thus far, came when a 9 year old hit a huge jump-shot, buzzer-beater over two defenders to take the lead and win the 9U Young3 Atlanta Championship. The gym exploded in excitement, as kids were running everywhere, elated after seeing such a great moment occur to close yet another, great day.

Week 8 of the Young3 was unique, exciting, life-changing and overall phenomenal. As always, kids were rewarded with tickets to the Big3 games on Friday. The Young3 heads to Dallas, Texas next week.
