Young3 Event Taking Place In The Motor City

By Liam Blutman, 07/13/18, 7:15AM PDT

The fourth edition of the Young3 clinic and 3 on 3 tournament took place in Detroit, Michigan. Hosting the camp was the Dick & Sandy Dauch Campus - Wayne County Boys & Girls Club of Detroit.

It was a wonderful day and once again the mastermind of the Big3, Ice Cube was in attendance for the Young3. As always he was extremely generous, taking pictures and signing autographs for everyone in attendance. The main focus of his speech was about your "loved ones and that they do really care about you even when it doesn’t seem like they do." He told each kid that they are indeed loved and cared for by reminding them that somebody woke up early in the morning to take them to this camp, demonstrating they are there for you and care for you deeply.

Among the basketball legends to show up today were... Charles Edge, Charles Turner, Earl Cureton who won an NBA championship with the Pistons, Willie Norwood and Grant Long who both played for the Pistons, and Corey Maggette who currently plays in the Big3 for the Power as well as playing for the Pistons towards the end of his NBA career. Despite not attending today’s camp, Dahntay Jones told me, “Recognizable faces in the community is always great for the youth of the community.” Dahntay is definitely correct as the youth who see and interact with these faces are motivated even more to maybe even one day themselves be one of those faces giving back to the community.

Instructing the youth as always was Young3 team President, Jerome “JYD” Williams. Erin Thorn, Desmon Farmer, and James “Hollywood” Robinson were also present and interacting with the kids as well and helping them become better basketball players and humans.

The Young3 was created to bring kids together, promote teamwork, and provide retired NBA/WNBA legends an opportunity and platform to pass along their knowledge of the game. With the events that transpired today we can verify that the mission of the Young3 was absolutely met today. The clinic travels to Miami, Florida next week.
