The Young3 Basketball Clinic was held today at the Holthouse Boys and Girls Club in Houston, Texas. Jerome Williams, president of the Young3 and former NBA/BIG3 player held a clinic and 3 on 3 tournament for kids in the Houston area. The Young3 is the Big3’s charity which aims to grow the game of 3 on 3 basketball, give back to local communities, and put smiles on young kids faces.
Boys and Girls Club Director, Darus Williams explained, “The kids really enjoyed the competition of 3 on 3 basketball and most importantly it helped the kids grow.” He stated that the event was incredible and he really, really appreciates Jerome and the Big3 holding the event here, impacting these young children’s lives in such a positive way.
While many kids were participating in basketball inside, Chris AKA “DJ Vanilla Trill” let us know that an abundance of kids were outside dancing, playing pop-a-shot, football, and (playing) video games. Chris stated, “The atmosphere was fun and kids were having a blast!” He also added that this is definitely the kind of event he’d participate in again as he enjoyed it so much.
Henrik Hoyer a sponsor of the Young3 with Reel Time Coaching, who are launching a innovative virtual coaching platform that connects aspiring athletes with the world’s best coaches on demand this summer. ReelTime Coaching allows young players video based access to world class, professional coaches that have played and/or coached for organizations such as the NBA and FC Barcelona. “Today was a great and provided valuable insight as we are getting ready to launch our platform” Hoyer said.
Every kid was ecstatic throughout the day, they were smiling regardless of if they made a 4- Point shot or lost a game. The kids met numerous Basketball Legends including: T.J. Ford, Desmon Farmer, James “Hollywood” Robinson, Major Jones, Erin Thorn, Nancy Lieberman, Moochie Norris, and Mike James among others. The former players helped teach kids with the game of basketball and they wanted to see them thrive. Many former players also took pictures with the kids. Many kids were also fortunate enough to take pictures with the founder of the Big3, Ice Cube.
This was a great experience for the Young3, Big3, and definitely the Holthouse Boys and Girls Club. Everyone is looking forward to a great Big3 season and many more Young3 events
